Houston Tornado

Tornado tears through Houston suburbs, causing widespread damage

Winds up to 100 mph reported

Some areas seeing damage similar to Hurricane Ike

A tornado tore through the Houston suburbs of Pasadena and Deer Park on Tuesday, causing widespread damage and leaving some areas looking like they had been hit by Hurricane Ike.

The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado, which had winds of up to 100 mph. The storm ripped through homes and businesses, toppling trees and power lines.

Emergency responders are still assessing the damage, but some areas are reporting damage similar to what was seen during Hurricane Ike, one of the costliest natural disasters in U.S. history.

The tornado is the latest in a series of severe weather events to hit Texas in recent weeks. High winds and heavy rains have caused flooding and damage across the state.
